Description

here is my Mumbles tram READY TO ENHANCE YOUR RAILWAY. Built from the plans, as accurate as the process will allow. These can be motorized and an option of a cut out version is available ready for the addition of running gear and engine.

The world’s first passenger train or tram was the Swansea and Mumbles Railway, in Wales, UK. The Mumbles Railway Act was passed by the British Parliament in 1804, and horse-drawn service started in 1807. The service closed in 1827, but was restarted in 1860, again using horses. It was worked by steam from 1877, and then, from 1929, by very large (106-seater) electric tramcars (my model), until closure in 1961.

The Swansea and Mumbles Railway was something of a one-off however, and no street tramway appeared in Britain until 1860

From the BBC: The Mumbles Railway was the first passenger carrying railway in the world. The Swansea foreshore tramcars were the most punctual and effective mode of transport in Swansea. Train times were rarely disrupted, residents confidently set their watches by the Mumbles Railway Timetable.
Electric Tramcars replaced steam locomotives on 2 March 1929 – the line originally being horse drawn. Tramcars could be linked, able to transport many hundreds from Swansea to Mumbles and back again in a short time. The railway finally closed in 1960 and is remembered with great affection. There are plans for a possible new short section from Oystermouth to Mumbles Pier.

I produce the body either fully seated or cut out for motorizing.

I will produce the bridge that connected Swansea to the seaside, known as the Slip bridge that these trams ran under.

Note the cutout versions have been successfully converted by Richard Prestige of Chesterfield models
