The No.12 bridge was a single span 13.4m approx. lightweight bridge, typically carried on, often in pairs, and deployed by a FV 4025 Chieftain AVLB Bridge layer.
The British Army has been using the BR-90 family of bridges since the mid-1990s. The family consists of 4 components. The Close Support Bridge with a maximum length of 24.5 m, the General Support Bridge with a maximum length of 32 m, the Long Span Equipment with a length of 44 m and the Two Span Equipment, which enables multiple laying of GSB and LSE with pontoons or fixed supports .
Close Support Bridge – AVLB Titan
The AVLB Titan, based on the Challenger 2 tank, is the laying vehicle for the Close Support Bridge or Assault Bridge.
33 vehicles were delivered. The base vehicle can be equipped with a dozer blade or a mine blade.
Two bridge types of a modular system are available as bridges. Bridge No 10 26 m long folded and Bridge No 12 13.5 m long. The No. 10 bridges can be transported and laid individually by the AVLB. From Bridge No. 12, two bridges can be transported and relocated at the same time by the AVLB. Up to three bridges can be combined, allowing a maximum length of 50 m to be bridged.
The bridges are made of aluminum. They are 4 m wide and No 10 1 m, No 12 0.7 m high.
